As Open Baptists look beyond our start-up necessities, how is the Spirit calling us to open our table, hear God’s heart, and spread our wings?
Open Baptists is a new movement of Baptist churches in Australia and New Zealand who are open to the diversity of people God gathers into our churches and open to the diversity of ways that God calls us to respond in our local contexts.
27 – 28 October 2023 | Canberra ACT
The Canberra gathering was an opportunity for discussion, suggestion, and dreaming. It did not involve any formal decision-making, but was an important forming event. A number of themes emerged:
An orientation to welcome and justice. A number of discussion groups touched on how Open Baptists might foster an associational culture in which people who have historically been unfairly marginalised and/or excluded from our churches and associations are welcomed, valued, and heard.
Open Baptists acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land where we work and live and their continuing connection to land, waters, and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures, and the Elders past, present, and emerging.
