Open Baptists 2026 Conference
13 June 2026 | Online
Our 2026 conference was originally intended to be a live-in event on the outskirts of Sydney, but with an out-of-control fuel crisis, we concluded that we couldn’t reasonably ask everyone to try to get there, so we reorganised it as an online event. While there are always some losses in that, the big gain was a significant increase in participation from churches in Victoria, Western Australia, and New Zealand. The conference again used the Open Space Technology method, where conference participants bring their own questions and ideas for group discussion, as we explored the question: HOW DO WE, AS OPEN BAPTISTS, EXPLORE, AND COURAGEOUSLY AND GENEROUSLY SHARE, LIFE LIVED TO THE FULL?
Open Table. Open Hearts. Open Wings
14 – 16 March 2025 | Tuggeranong ACT
The 2025 gathering, held in Tuggeranong ACT, focussed around this question: “as Open Baptists look beyond our start-up necessities, how is the Spirit calling us to open our table, hear God’s heart, and spread our wings?”
Attended by over 90 people, there were numerous discussion groups tackling various aspects of this question. Sunday morning saw us sharing in worship with the Tuggeranong congregation, and in a brief pause in the worship, a general meeting broke out and voted the Tuggeranong church into membership!
Open Baptists. Dreaming of New Beginnings
27 – 28 October 2023 | Canberra ACT
The Canberra gathering was an opportunity for discussion, suggestion, and dreaming. It did not involve any formal decision-making, but was an important forming event. A number of themes emerged:
An orientation to welcome and justice. A number of discussion groups touched on how Open Baptists might foster an associational culture in which people who have historically been unfairly marginalised and/or excluded from our churches and associations are welcomed, valued, and heard.
